Royal Australian Navy

The Royal Australia Navy

A country must be wary of both internal and external threats, which could either be on land or the sea. Dangers on the ocean are handled by a separate arm of the Armed forces, often known as the naval force or Navy. The official Navy for Australia is the Royal Australian Navy which came into force before the First World War in 1911. Ever since, RAN has been involved in several wars, from the World Wars to the Vietnam War to the Iraq war to other emergencies.

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has over fifty vessels commissioned under it and employs the expertise of over sixteen thousand personnel. It is a renowned organisation with the ultimate aim of protecting the country from external aggression.

The Royal Australian Navy (RAN) has a command structure managed by the NHQ (Naval Headquarters) located in Canberra. The head of the naval force holds the vice-admiral’s position, which could be likened to that of lieutenant-general, and he oversees many fleets. The NHQ lords over two other commands, which are the fleet command and the Navy Strategic command.

RAN is associated with different policies that aid the effective administration of their work. These policies are focused on the organisation of the force and their interaction with the environment.

Organisation

Organisation involves a process of planning and arranging parts of a thing to become whole. Likewise, the organisation of RAN is strategically structured in a way that the entire service and its corroborating bodies are aligned into one integrated force that is dedicated to training personnel and providing the essential support to produce combat potentialities.

The Navy command head is the Chief of Navy Australia, responsible for managing the affairs, training, and disciplining of RAN officers. The Navy director also controls the organisation and management of the Navy Headquarters and the Fleet command. The Navy Headquarters exercises hold over DCN and HNPTAR; HNC, WO-N, and HNE, while the fleet command oversees the affairs of COMAUSFLY, which lords over other agencies under it.

Environment

The Australian Naval force acknowledges the impacts of sound environmental management on any branch of defence’s operational and economical running. It, therefore, enlightens the public on ecological risk management. RAN engages safe practices when at sea, ashore, or in the air and ensures good environmental care by implementing land sustainability policies. RAN monitors activities that may endanger human lives, and in most cases, they deter people from fishing or quarantine imported products to avoid the spread of any disease.

MA EMP (Maritime Activities Environmental Management Plan) is an agency created to ensure all sea officers or workers comply with legislative environmental duties. This body carries out research and training on environmental problems associated with sea activities. It considers the implications of these activities and provides management solutions.

In constant search for improvements and sustainable developments, RAN came about Plan Pelorus 2022. Plan Pelorus 2022 is an agenda to push for various adjustments and new operations in the Army. The objective is to define the Navy as a fighting body and as a geeky unit. The plan includes the establishment of long-lasting maritime systems, a good maintenance plan, etc.
